First Annual Smithers Tea Party - Thursday 31st May, 2012

Cake Prize 2012

Dear All - Update 20 June 2012,

Thank you very much to those of you who joined us at our first Smithers’ Tea Party – we hope you had a nice time!  Together we raised £575 to add to the £1,396 raised at the spring party and bake sale in April.  That brings the total raised for the Ups Club so far this year to £1,971.

We are having a bit of a rest from fundraising whilst the Mini-Olympics is going on, but are planning a raffle, cocktail evening and Christmas Shopping Fayre for later in the year, so we’ll be in touch with the details.  You can also keep updated with fundraising activity via our website:

Dear All,

The Ups Club is now in its 50th anniversary year.

On Thursday 31st of May from 4pm we will be holding our first annual RMH & ICR village fête – the Smithers Tea Party, at the Ups Club. This event is name after the first President of the Ups Club, Prof. Sir David Waldron Smithers, to celebrate our 50th year in existence, being founded in February 1963.

There will be plenty of fun for all the family, with games (including egg and spoon races, stalls and (hopefully) ‘sponge the supervisor’), Pimm’s, local produce stalls and hot food, ice-cream and (of course) tea available.

We will also be holding our first ICR & RMH Bake Off with three winning categories – appearance, taste and overall winner – if you are interested in entering the competition or in being a judge, please email Barbara.Harrington@rmh.nhs.uk.

There will also be a selection of stalls in the hall and as such I am asking those of you who run clubs whether you would like to have some leaflets available for a sports club stall? If enough people would like this I will arrange for a stall to be set up to this effect. In the meantime I will be (finally!) revamping the noticeboard in the Ups Club so could I please ask each of you who runs a club to provide me with a new poster? I will leave a folder up on the noticeboard for you to deposit new posters from this evening. If you would like to provide info on your particular club at the Smithers Tea Party then please contact me directly so that I can organise this by Monday 28th May. Likewise if you know of anyone I have inadvertently missed off this list please feel free to forward this email onwards.

More information on the history of The Ups Club can be found on our website: http://theupsclub.co.uk/upsdowns/_upsdwns.htm

Best wishes, Zoe Walters (18 May 2012)
