Swimming Pool Updates

Information update 07 June 2006:

As you may be aware, we re-opened the Roderick Moore Swimming pool in June 2005, after a lengthy period of cleaning, redecoration and safety improvements. The pool was initially opened to RMH and ICR staff, plus their families.

However, we have been beset by ever increasing problems with insurance companies, regarding the lack of permanent pool attendant. As you know this has resulted in the temporary closure of the pool. Finally we have had to take the following action in order to reopen the pool for all members;

Following a meeting with the RMH Facilities Director on Friday May 5th 2006 it was decided that that the only way to proceed was for each pool member to sign a waiver, stipulating that if they wish to use the Roderick Moore Swimming Pool they will do so at their own risk. For family members, a parent must sign on behalf of those under 18 years of age.

Information update 20 December 2005:

Dear Colleague,

Trust and ICR staff are automatically members of the Sutton site's Ups Club.
The Ups Club is managed by Trust and ICR volunteers. Its purpose is to oversee the sports and social activities which are provided on the Ups Club premises. Most of these activities have unrestricted access. However, for health and safety reasons, use of the Ups Club swimming pool is restricted to swimming pool members only.

You will be aware from previous email correspondence from the Ups Club Swimming Pool Committee (see below dated 31st May) that the swimming pool re-opened on 6th June. The Ups Club Swimming Pool Committee continues to be responsible for the general running of the swimming pool. However, the Hospital Facilities Team Office (Sutton) has now taken on responsibility for the administration of the swimming pool membership. Therefore, I am writing to explain how the swimming pool membership works.

Please note that anyone wanting to use the swimming pool must sign up for annual swimming pool membership. The membership form (now available via main swimming pool home page) is attached to this email, together with the swimming pool rules and operating procedures. These documents will also be available on the Trust Intranet shortly. Members are required to sign up to the rules and procedures, and swimming pool membership will be cancelled if they are not followed! Completed applications, together with payment, should be submitted to the Hospital Facilities Team Office (Sutton).

The Ups Club Swimming Pool Committee has defined the following categories of swimming pool membership:

Annual Corporate Membership: £20
Trust and ICR staff, including staff/students with honorary contracts, approved contracted staff and volunteers.
Annual Associate Membership: £20*
Retired Trust and ICR staff
Epsom and St Helier University Hospitals NHS Trust staff
HMP Downview/Highdown staff..
*Subject to first applying to the Ups Club Committee for general membership of the Ups Club.
Annual Family Membership: £30
Spouses, partners and children over 16 of corporate members of the swimming pool.
(Corporate members' children under 16 may use the the swimming pool if accompanied by a responsible adult member).
Swimming Clubs

In addition, a number of external clubs may contract to hire the swimming pool subject to satisfactorily meeting appropriate risk assessments.

Membership is now valid for one year from membership being agreed. If membership is not re-newed by the member after one year, then membership will be discontinued and the access card automatically become invalid.

Deputy Director of Facilities

Information update 23 June 2005:

Please accept our apologies if you have paid your membership fee to use the pool, but have not yet received an email to say that your card is ready. Over 190 cards have been given out already but unfortunately no more can be issued until July. We will therefore be extending the expiry date accordingly. (All cards were previously due to expire on the 6th June 06, to help us with the administration of renewals next year.)

The good news is that the pool opening times have also been extended. The hours which membership cards will now give access to the pool are given below:

6am and 8pm Monday to Weds
6am to 7pm Thurs & Friday.
9am til 6pm Weekends.

Sign up for membership - extension due to card production problems:
What to bring?
Cash or your Cheque made payable to "The Ups Club"
Staff Identification Badge
Old swimming pool security card if you have one.

Information update 27 May 2005:
Swimming Pool Re-Opening !!
After some considerable effort the pool is now scheduled to re-open on the 6th June. Hoorah!!! Special thanks go to Dennis Underwood, who kept the plug in the pool for so long - and to the Works Department (particularly Norman
and Luke) for all their help.
In the first instance, use of the pool will be restricted to staff of the ICR, Trust and their families - with the hope that honorary members, associate members and outside users won't be far off. (Dust down that diving gear etc).
The pool will be open between 7am and 7pm weekdays, and from 10am to 4pm Weekends and Public Holidays. Lockers are now available which use refundable £1 coins.
Cost of annual membership: Annual Membership = £20 Family Membership = £30
(If you have an old swimming pool security card, bring it with you to a membership session and you will receive £5 refund.) This membership will be valid for 1 year from the opening date of the pool. At this point access with your card will automatically be cancelled, unless you contact a member of the swimming pool committee to re-pay your membership. Members joining
with less than 6 months to renewal will pay £10.
Standard operating procedures and membership rules have been drawn up. You will be asked to sign that you agree to abide by these rules and your card will be cancelled if you don't follow them!
