The ICR/RMH Sutton Bridge Club met regularly every Wednesday from around the start of the facilities in 1960’s to 2000. At around this time the bar was shut for a couple of years and the club folded with players moving to other local clubs. The club generally played either rubber or duplicate bridge on alternate weeks.

Therefore, due to the lack of a venue, the Bridge Club has temporarily suspended its meetings.

Rubber evenings were very informal, and tables were started on a "first come first served" basis - with players cutting for partners. Duplicate bridge evenings were generally run as part of a tournament. The club held two tournaments a year - the George Abel Individual Duplicate Tournament and The Downs Club Individual Tournament. In both tournaments partnerships were established by a draw. For the George Abel Trophy, partnerships were rotated for every round. Scoring for both tournaments was calculated to establish the best individual performances, and was designed to avoid the necessity of forming regular partnerships. Players of all standards, and beginners were all welcome to attend. The club adopted the Standard Acol bidding convention.

Please get in touch with any Ups/Downs pH committee member if you wish to start up the club again.
