Dear Squash Committee, Just some information for you on progress with the dehumidifier unit. On their last visit (temporary repair in July) the engineers suggested a new electronic panel to substitute the old fashioned contactor, thermostats and capacitors etc. This may give our unit a few more years serviceable life whilst we consider how to find a longer term solution to heating/cooling and water extraction. Please let me know your feelings about this, or if you wish to convene a full meeting to discuss the matter. Cheers, Steve

04/09/2006 14:11:19 Hi Steve, could you remind me? are we looking to replace the whole unit in the future? if so it seems rather a lot of money to spend on something that will be replaced in the next year or so. or were there problems in finding a replacement which is why we kept fixing the old one? Jon

04/09/2006 14:25:06 Dear Jon, I'm perfectly sympathetic to your concerns. I have talked to these new engineers (Tech Refrigeration) and they think the general parts are serviceable for a few more years. We are therefore in the unenviable position of potentially 'chucking good money after bad'. At the moment there is no specific squash court dehumidifier unit on the market, but Tech Refrigeration believe they can come up with an alternative. I'm far too busy at the moment to contemplate going down this road as we need something in for the winter, but if sufficient people are worried then perhaps we can form a sub committee to deal with this possibility. Can I suggest therefore, that all further emails are cc'ed to all committee, Cheers, Steve

In addition to this there were seven more responses (6 by email and 1 verbal)

Consensus from replies:

Following the quote received 31.08.06 for the proposed work of:

Cost of custom made electronic panel £1112.50 + vat

Labour £500.00 + vat

Total £1612.50 + vat (received 31.08.06 by fax)

The committee felt that a quick fix/short repair was acceptable by those who responded. Two committee members highlighted the fact that there was still a little uncertainty about the location of the proposed 'Super-Hospital'. These members particularly thought the repair was a favoured option. One member with engineering and maintenance experience suggested that a query should be lodged regarding why two men were required for the day for installation.

Note post-circular: The refrigeration company was consulted, and justification for the need for two men was given on the basis of health and safety. The company have an in-house policy of not allowing lone working on electrical appliances. A full version of the correspondence with the company is held on hard copy club archives, and is available on request.

These minutes were approved by Ups Club Squash Section Management Committee 07 September 2006.

A further email was circulated to the committee (14.09.06) to seek final approval to accept the quotation for the control panel repair.

There were 9 replies (verbal and email) - all consenting to the repair.

Steve Edwards agreed to organise the job.
